Our Art Studio was created as a safe place to play in the realm of visual arts. We offer the seasoned artist and the raw beginner a wide variety of visual art forms to explore. People are encouraged to relax and enjoy experimenting with their creativity, honing in on a specific technique, or mixing methods and mediums spontaneously.
We embrace your skills and talents as well as your imperfections, inviting them all into the artistic process.
To support your creative journey, our studio is stocked with a multitude of mediums and supplies: acrylics, pastels, markers, stencils, stamps, india inks, colored waxes, fabric dyes, flax, linen and hemp yarns, abaca plant fibers and much more.
Express your creativity through painting, drawing, markmaking, mixed media, encaustics, silk and batik painting, fiber sculpture, paper making, paper marbling, art journaling and bookmaking.
Blending into the work space, our Art Studio has a designated “cozy” area with comfortable furniture for taking a break, relaxing in solitude or enjoying conversation around the fire with a glass of wine or a cup of tea.
Our Acoustic Room is designed to enhance music as an expressive art. The pristine sound dynamics support professional performers, or novices who want to explore singing, songwriting and musical aspirations. Plug into our sound system and express your voice, your song, your latest composition, or your first time amplified with a mic. Dive into your creativity and let loose the music inside you. Our array of user-friendly rhythm and sound healing instruments are ideal for bringing people together to share musical connection.
We see music as medicine, whatever the form of expression: solo, collaboration, performance art, creative jam sessions, drum/sound healing circles, whatever emerges …
Drum circles are a simple and easy way to build group connection through rhythm. Sound healing circles integrate tone and harmonics, from our easy to play instruments, including singing bowls, monochord, Hang, RAV, Shruti box, Freenotes and the Wave.
In our drum/sound healing circles, we use rhythm and harmonics to build connection, unity and coherency within a group. Participants sit in a circle as equals, offering their individual rhythmic or musical expression and creating a single, unified dynamic sound. This sound reflects a larger field created by the group connecting and harmonizing through frequency, resonance and entrainment.
With its modern sprung bamboo floor and open space, the Acoustic Room was created for dance. The pristine acoustics and the clarity of our sound system nourish and vitalize creative movement. We invite the expressive arts of dance and movement, in all their wonderful shapes and styles, to fill our space in the spirit of healing.
Authentic, uninhibited movement can be a powerful means to liberate ourselves from self-conscious patterns of containment and limitation we hold inside us.
We support each person finding their body’s own relationship with movement or dance, and their own way of expression. You are encouraged to explore moving spontaneously, transcending fears and inhibitions, inviting creative energy to flow through your body, so you can feel the empowering, healing effects.
On the quieter side, the Acoustic Room is a lovely environment for contemplative movement arts.
This space warmly supports meditative movement practices as part of the expressive arts experience. Our sound healing instruments are also available to enhance these practices with live soundscapes.
There is a special place in our hearts for the art of vocal expression and its role in healing. We have witnessed so many people gain empowerment and health by finding their voice. At Emergence, we support cultivation of voice in myriad ways: in the creative process through singing, poetry or spoken word; in the therapeutic process on the treatment table; or in group process by speaking one’s truth before others.
With respect to healing, we encourage free authentic expression of voice as a means of activating energy flow and empowerment through the body.
Vocal containment of thoughts, feelings or emotions (often from past trauma) can produce powerful chronic tensions in the mouth, jaw, neck and chest. These tensions constrict the tissues, literally blocking the voice from speaking or emoting deeply held feelings and experiences. In past trauma, this constriction of voice was often our body wisdom protecting us. With time, in a safe space, our voice may need expression for the trauma to heal.
When we find the strength to speak our truth, sing our song, cry our grief, vent our anger or recite our tender poem, constricted tissues relax and open, allowing the flow of emotional expression through us.
This release of emotional energy can have a transformative effect on our health and well-being.
The Acoustic Room serves as a warm and magical container for performance arts. We customize stage settings and lighting to meet the needs of each production. The space is an ideal listening room for concerts, dance recitals, theater, poetry or spoken word.
We especially welcome performance in the context of healing, where creative expression is feeding and nourishing the heart and soul — uplifting and unifying the performer and audience.
Performance Art can be a wonderful way for people to expand and allow the freedom of expression to flow through them. We invite the merging of creative and healing energies to liberate us from our inhibitions, and empower us to freely share our artistic spirit with others.
We honor written word as a powerful expressive art and a partner in the healing process. Whether it be journaling, creative writing, songwriting, poetry or any other form, writing can be an invitation to inquire inward. We may discover significant issues living within us, hidden beneath our conscious awareness, that adversely impact our health and well-being.
As we uncover these issues and they are brought into conscious awareness, we awaken the potential insight and empowerment to heal them.
This process can work synergistically with our somatic therapies. During treatment, there can also be an uncovering of issues held in the tissues, beneath our conscious awareness. The discovery process may involve information in the form of sensations, images, memories or emotions. Writing the details of a session can help us assimilate and integrate this nonlinear information. It can provide meaning and clarity for us to carry forward in our healing process, and to integrate in the content and quality of our writing.
