Jessica
Jessica Logreira was born in New York and raised in South America. She was exposed in early childhood to the cultural importance of creative expression thanks to her mom’s social activism in community arts programs. Jessica was educated in an all-girl, American Catholic school in Barranquilla, Colombia. A tragic twist of fate—losing her mother at age sixteen, turned Jessica’s life upside down. She was forced to put her creative passions on the back burner and assume the role of single mother, caring for her two younger sisters. At age nineteen, she moved to Boston to attend Emerson College, where she received a BA in Advertising & Public Relations with a Minor in Fine Arts.
After college, she immersed herself in a corporate career with a major hotel chain in Central & South America. For over two decades, Jessica was Director of Tour and Travel for twenty-three hotels in five countries. While her work had perks and many advantages, her soul was hungry for a more meaningful existence. This led her on a quest to rediscover her authentic self and her heart’s passion for creativity. After endless years as a workaholic, Jessica finally began using her (long neglected) vacation time, taking regular breaks from cell phones, emails and meetings. She discovered Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. She danced and sang, she did yoga and meditation, she took self-exploration and emotional processing courses, but mostly she took art classes.
She dove into a vast sea of art mediums—playing with silk & batik, collage, mosaic, jewelry making, poetry, mandala and sacred geometry, woodturning, Touch Drawing, photography, bookbinding, and Congo Art, to name a few. She learned to feel comfortable letting loose, trusting and embracing the process of art and play. She began to rediscover her mother’s passion inside herself.
And now, she is following her dream! She quit her job and moved from Panamá to Truth or Consequences. She is pouring her creative passion into the Emergence Center, where she is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing space for people to explore their own journey, and let loose as she did, creating expressive art that heals the soul.
Christopher
Christopher Slate was born in Los Angeles, California. He grew up surfing in Malibu and eventually pursuing a spiritual quest, the cultural norm in the early 1970s. Starting at age seventeen, Christopher immersed himself in the practice of mindfulness and internal arts. In 1971, he began learning yoga by pouring through every book available at the Bodhi Tree Bookstore and teaching himself by personal practice. He spent the next decade as caretaker of a spiritual center in Malibu, practicing yoga and meditation several hours a day.
In the following years, Christopher’s inner journey took further root in the practice of Taoist Chi Kung and Craniosacral Therapy. The energy cultivation achieved in Chi Kung proved a natural complement to Craniosacral Therapy, with its essential treatment tools of grounding, presence, intention and energetic touch. Over time, Christopher also spent long hours and years learning multiple somatic therapies, throwing himself headlong into the study of anatomy and physiology. He mentored personally with Emilie Conrad in exploratory movement and with Dr. Valerie Hunt in energy healing. He also maintained a private practice for over twenty years in Malibu and West Los Angeles, and worked from 2004 to 2012 as a Craniosacral therapist with the Pediatric Pain Program at UCLA, under the guidance of Dr. Lonnie Zeltzer.
In 2006, with personal tutelage from Craniosacral Therapy pioneer Dr. John Upledger, Christopher began using the didgeridoo and other sound healing instruments in conjunction with hands-on treatment. His understanding of sound and healing was deeply enhanced by a six-year relationship with two dolphins on a remote Caribbean island.
In the years from 1995 to 2017, Christopher enriched his exploration of healing, expressive arts, somatics and self-inquiry at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, where he worked for many years as a practitioner combining Craniosacral Therapy and Sound Healing. He continues on his inner quest at Emergence in Truth or Consequences. Christopher is an Upledger Institute, Diplomate-Certified Craniosacral Therapist with 33 years experience in the practice of somatic therapies.
